Spain-headquartered BlueFloat Energy and Greenvolt have joined forces to develop offshore wind projects in Portugal.
According to the partners, Portugal holds great potential for offshore wind, which is now recognised by the national policymakers who seek to unlock the potential of this technology to deliver on the country’s decarbonisation targets.
Portugal has recently identified draft areas for offshore wind development as part of the government’s plan to award 10 GW of capacity that would be grid-connected by 2030.
The auction is expected to take place in autumn 2023.
Greenvolt brings local development and permitting expertise as well as strong local brand recognition, whereas BlueFloat Energy contributes with extensive technical expertise in floating offshore wind and a unique understanding of floating technology, the companies said.

When it comes to Greenvolt, the company, in addition to power generation from forest residues and urban wood residues in both Portugal and the UK, is a promoter of wind and solar photovoltaic projects, operating in several European markets and in the US market as well.
