French transmission system operator RTE Réseau de Transport d’Electricité has commissioned Dorsalys to build an onshore substation which will enable the Dieppe-Le Tréport offshore wind farm to be connected to its grid.

The transformer station, located on land three kilometres from the subsea cable landing point, is scheduled for delivery in spring 2025.

The substation will be linked to the wind farm’s offshore station by a double 225 kV subsea link 23 kilometres long, going underground for three kilometres from the Penly landing junction.

The unit is to be used to transform the 225 kV electricity generated offshore into 400 kV current that can be fed directly into the national grid.

“ They first had to fill in the existing sinkholes before they could begin earthworks for the platform and the substation fence, as well as digging deep foundations for the entire site ,” said Dorsalys, the Eiffage Énergie Systèmes brand.

“ Construction of the buildings, drainage network installation and civil engineering work for the major structures are to follow. Finally, they will install the electrical equipment and connect the substation to high voltage, low voltage and optical fibre. “

Ocean Winds, Sumimoto Corporation, and Banque des Territoires, shareholders of the company Eoliennes en Mer Dieppe Le Tréport (EMDT), made the final investment decision (FID) for the Dieppe-Le Tréport offshore wind farm in April.

The 496 MW project is set to be built at a site located 15 kilometres off the city of Le Tréport and 17 kilometres off the city of Dieppe.

The offshore wind farm will have 62 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW wind turbines, all of which are scheduled to go into operation in 2026.
