Wood Thilsted Wins Outer Dowsing Foundation Design Contract in UK

UK-based Wood Thilsted has been appointed as the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) wind turbine foundation designer for the 1.5 GW Outer Dowsing offshore wind farm in the UK.

Wood Thilsted has completed the first phase of work and will now carry out the second phase of the FEED work. The contracted scope includes the FEED design of the primary and secondary structures, a range of detailed engineering studies, technical documentation, and cost modelling, the company said.

Located 54 kilometres off the coast of Lincolnshire in the east of England, the Outer Dowsing offshore wind project is being developed by TotalEnergies, Corio Generation, a portfolio company of Macquarie Asset Management, and Gulf Energy Development.

The project’s Development Consent Order application, which was accepted by the Planning Inspectorate in April 2024, includes an offshore wind farm comprising up to 100 turbines, underground cables to carry the power from the landfall site close to Anderby Marsh, and a new onshore substation at Surfleet Marsh.

The project will then connect to existing National Grid overhead transmission lines in the Weston Marsh area.

Once completed, Outer Dowsing will be one of the UK’s largest offshore wind farms, and is anticipated that it will generate enough electricity to power over 1.6 million households.
