The Bałtyk II offshore wind farm, developed by a joint venture between Equinor and Polenergia, has received a building permit from the Polish Government. In addition, the Bałtyk III wind project has been given a building permit for offshore export cables in the Polish Baltic Sea.

On 3 July, the Pomeranian Voivodeship issued a permit for the construction of sections of two submarine export cables for the Bałtyk II offshore wind farm. This permit includes the installation of transition joints and the execution of two drillings.

Two days later, on 5 July, the 720 MW project received a building permit from the Pomeranian Voivodeship. The document includes 50 wind turbines together with the internal power and telecommunications network.

MFW Bałtyk II, a special-purpose company owned by Polenergia and Equinor, submitted the application for the permit on 27 March 2024.

The Bałtyk III wind project also received a building permit on 5 July for the offshore export cables.

At the beginning of this month, Equinor and Polenergia signed reservation agreements with the consortium of Sif and Smulders for the manufacturing of 100 transition pieces (TPs) for the two offshore wind farms.

Bałtyk II and Bałtyk III will each have 50 Siemens Gamesa SG 14-236 DD wind turbines installed on monopiles, making up for 720 MW of installed capacity per wind farm.

The projects will be located in the Polish exclusive economic zone of the Baltic Sea, approximately 37 and 22 kilometres from the coastline near Ustka and Łeba.

All three Bałtyk wind farms will have a total capacity of up to 3 GW, providing green energy to over four million households, according to the developers.
