Vestas has received a firm order for the OranjeWind offshore wind project, previously named Hollandse Kust West VII, situated off the coast of the Netherlands in the North Sea.

Vestas will provide 53 V236-15.0 MW wind turbines and is responsible for the supply, delivery, and commissioning of the units.

Wind turbine installation at the project site, located around 53 kilometres off the coast of IJmuiden, is expected to commence in 2027.

Upon completion, the Danish wind turbine manufacturer will service the assets under a comprehensive five-year service agreement followed by a long-term operational support agreement.

Vestas said that the OranjeWind offshore wind farm has an installed capacity of 795 MW and a grid connection capacity of 760 MW, with an additional 35 MW reserved to optimise connection efficiency, even when production is lower.

“OranjeWind sets a high bar for technological innovations and sustainability, and we are delighted to deliver our solutions, including our offshore flagship wind turbine, for this project in the Netherlands. Our entire team is looking forward to working together with the OranjeWind project team on this exciting and ambitious wind farm in the North Sea,” Nils de Baar, President of Vestas Northern and Central Europe

The wind turbines will be installed on TP-less monopiles supplied by Sif. In total, the Dutch company will manufacture 53 foundations with a total weight of approximately 76 kilotons. The production is planned to start in the first quarter of 2026.

Jan De Nul will handle the installation of the foundations and wind turbines using its floating heavy lift vessel Les Alizés and jack-up installation vessel Voltaire, while TKF will provide the inter-array cables for the project.

RWE and TotalEnergies announced last week that they are entering a 50/50 partnership to deliver the OranjeWind offshore wind project.

Offshore construction at the site is scheduled to start in 2026, with full commissioning expected in early 2028.
