The 31st and last Vestas V174-9.5 MW wind turbine has been installed at the 300 MW Zhong Neng offshore wind project in Taiwan. Full production of the wind farm is expected later this year, according to a social media post by Joris Hol, CEO of Zhong Neng and Fengmiao Phase I offshore wind farms at Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP).

In May this year, the first Vestas V174-9.5 MW wind turbine was installed at the offshore site, located about 13 kilometres from Changhua County.

The installation work was carried out by Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s jack-up vessel Bold Tern.

The offshore construction on the Zhong Neng offshore wind project started in March 2023 with the installation of pin piles for the jacket foundations.

A year later, CSBC-DEME Wind Engineering (CDWE) completed the placement of the jacket foundations and the accompanying pin piles. The foundation work was performed by Green Jade, the first Taiwan-built offshore wind installation vessel.

The 300 MW Zhong Neng wind farm, jointly developed by Taiwan-based China Steel Corporation (CSC) and Danish fund manager Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), produced its first power in June. COP is leading the development activities on behalf of its partners.

According to Joris Hol, full production of the wind farm is expected later this year, with completion celebrations being held on 4 September and 5 September.

Once fully operational, the project will provide clean energy to approximately 300,000 households in Taiwan.

CIP and its partners currently have three offshore wind projects in Taiwan with a combined capacity of approximately 1,400 MW: the 600 MW Changfang-Xidao, the 300 MW Zhong Neng, and the 500 MW Fengmiao which is set to enter construction in 2025.
