Ramboll Hired as Technical Advisor on PGE Baltica’s Offshore Wind Projects

Denmark-headquartered Ramboll has signed a multi-year agreement with PGE Baltica to provide wide-ranging technical advisory services to the company’s 7+ GW offshore wind farm portfolio in the Baltic Sea.

Ramboll’s support will cover every aspect of offshore wind farm progression, ensuring technical robustness, financial efficiency, and secure operation throughout the lifecycle of the projects, the company said.

Under the four-year contract, Ramboll will provide technical support for all offshore wind projects implemented by Poland’s PGE Baltica.

PGE Baltica is responsible for implementing the PGE Group’s offshore programme, including the development of the 2.5 GW Baltica offshore wind farm in Poland.

Located in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea between Łeba and Ustka, the project comprises two stages, the 1.5 GW Baltica 2 and the 1 GW Baltica 3. The wind farms, developed by PGE and Ørsted, are planned to be commissioned by the end of 2027 and by the end of this decade, respectively.

After 2030, the 900 MW Baltica 1 will join the group’s portfolio.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) recently announced that it is considering a possible loan of up to EUR 300 million to support the construction and operation of Baltica 2.

If approved, the funds will be provided in the form of a non-recourse long-term senior loan alongside multiple commercial banks, export agencies, and development banks, according to EBRD’s notice.

Due to the acquisition of new seabed areas in the Baltic Sea, the PGE Group plans to develop additional offshore wind projects by 2040. With these new areas and the projects currently under development, the total installed capacity in offshore wind will exceed 7 GW, according to Ramboll.

This is not the first time Ramboll and PGE have collaborated. In 2022, PGE and Ørsted appointed the consortium of Ramboll Polska and Projmors to prepare the design documentation for Baltica wind farm’s offshore substations, wind turbines, inter-array cables, as well as to obtain a building permit, and then prepare the technical design of the project.
