Polenergia, Equinor Award Contracts for Bałtyk 2 & Bałtyk 3 Offshore Wind Farms

Business & Finance

Polenergia and Equinor have signed contracts with Poland’s Enprom, the Smulders-Sif consortium, and Iemants, a subsidiary of Smulders, for the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms in Poland.

Polenergia and Equinor, the two companies that will build the offshore wind farms together in Poland, signed a contract with the Polish company Enprom to design and construct cable lines for both projects on the land section.

Enprom will be the main contractor for four 220 kV cable tracks with a length of approximately seven kilometres, which will connect the offshore cables to the project’s onshore substations, and two 400 kV tracks that will then lead to Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne’s (PSE) substation located more than six kilometres away.

Telecommunications fiber optic cables will also accompany all sections.

A consortium of Sif Netherlands and Smulders Projects Belgium will supply 100 transition pieces (TPs) for the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms.

The scope of work consists of the fabrication of TPs, including shop design, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning.

Sif will manufacture the approximately 30 Kton primary steel tubular, including flanges, at its facility in Roermond, the Netherlands. The company will also supply monopiles for the two projects.

Smulders will perform the secondary steel scope, coating, electrical system, and testing and commissioning. The Polish facilities of Smulders will manufacture the secondary steel.

The final assembly will take place at the yard in Hoboken, Belgium, with manufacturing works scheduled for 2025.

Iemants, a subsidiary of Smulders, will be responsible for the design and construction of two offshore substations for the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind projects.

The scope of work includes engineering, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning of both substations, including jacket foundations.

The works will be conducted at Smulders’ production facilities in Belgium, while the final assembly of the topsides will be done at their yard in Vlissingen, the Netherlands.

The transportation and installation of monopiles and TPs, as well as offshore substation jackets and topsides, will be carried out by Heerema Marine Contractors.

The Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms will each have 50 Siemens Gamesa SG 14-236 DD wind turbines making up for 720 MW of installed capacity per wind farm.

Polenergia and Equinor recently received offshore and onshore construction permits for the two offshore wind farms, located in the Polish exclusive economic zone of the Baltic Sea, approximately 37 and 22 kilometres from the coastline near Ustka and Łeba.
