DeepOcean Taps CRP Subsea for Offshore Wind Cable Protection Systems

Business & Finance

UK-headquartered CRP Subsea has secured a contract from Norway-based ocean services provider, DeepOcean, to supply cable protection systems for RWE’s Nordseecluster A offshore wind project in the German part of the North Sea.

Under this contract, CRP Subsea will supply 96 NjordGuard cable protection systems (CPS) for the project’s wind turbines. The CPS will safeguard inter-array cables from over-bending, abrasion, and fatigue during installation and operation, said CRP Subsea. The systems will be designed for both monopile and J-tube interfaces.

“We are honoured by DeepOcean’s decision to select CRP Subsea for this project”, said Andy Smith, Head of Sales at CRP Subsea.

“This contract reinforces our commitment to advancing the renewable energy sector and highlights our role in supporting the development of sustainable energy infrastructure. It also strengthens our ongoing partnership with DeepOcean and complements our involvement in other key projects across Germany.’’

CRP Subsea will manufacture the NjordGuard cable protection systems at its facility in the North West of England, where the semi-automated production line at the site increases product capacity. Engineering work will begin immediately, with delivery planned for 2026, according to the company.

The Nordseecluster will be constructed in two phases, Nordseecluster A and Nordseecluster B, each comprising two offshore wind farms. Phase A, with 660 MW capacity, is expected to start construction at sea next year, with all turbines connected by early 2027. Phase B will add 900 MW, with commercial operations set for early 2029.

In July, DeepOcean was awarded a contract for RWE’s Nordseecluster A, covering trenching, transport, and installation of inter-array cables, following the preferred supplier status awarded in August 2023. RWE made the final investment decision for its entire Nordseecluster in May.
