Cadeler Inks Firm Turbine Installation Contracts for Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 Offshore Wind Farms

Business & Finance

Denmark’s Cadeler has signed firm contracts with Polenergia and Equinor for the installation of wind turbines at the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms in Poland.

Following the vessel reservation agreements made in May 2024 with the Equinor-Polenergia joint venture, Cadeler has finalized firm contracts to install 100 wind turbines in the Baltic Sea off the Polish coast.

At the beginning of this year, Polenergia and Equinor selected Siemens Gamesa as their wind turbine supplier for the two offshore wind farms. The final contracts included the production, delivery, and service of 100 SG 14-236 DD units.

The total potential value of these contracts to Cadeler is expected to be in the range of EUR 120 million to EUR 144 million, with operations scheduled to begin in 2027.

Cadeler plans to deploy both an O-class and a P-class vessel for the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms. In August, the company took delivery of its first P-class jack-up installation vessel, Wind Peak, from the COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry shipyard in Qidong, China.

The Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms received all the required construction permits in August. The two projects will have a total capacity of 1,440 MW and be able to supply over two million households with renewable energy, according to the developers.

The preparatory works on land will begin this year and the first electricity from both wind farms is expected to flow in 2027, with the projects’ commercial operation scheduled for 2028.

“We are excited to announce a firm contract for yet another significant milestone project in Poland. This marks our third major project in the Polish market, showcasing the strong business potential in that market, driven by increasing demand for renewable energy”, said Mikkel Gleerup, CEO of Cadeler.

“Additionally, this is our first firm contract with Equinor and Polenergia, and we look forward to working closely together to set the stage for future successful collaborations.”

After the two 1.4 GW projects, Equinor and Polenergia plan to also build the Bałtyk 1 offshore wind farm. This third project is planned to have an installed capacity of up to 1,560 MW.
