Hellenic Cables Lands Inter-Array Deal for US Offshore Wind Project

Business & Finance

Greece’s Hellenic Cables, the cable segment of Cenergy Holdings, has signed a partnership agreement with Leading Light Wind, one of the largest offshore wind farms in the US, to supply some of the project’s inter-array cables.

Under the agreement, Hellenic Cables will supply 65 kilometres of 132 kV inter-array cables, a part of the offshore wind project’s total inter-array cable needs.

The Leading Light Wind project, being developed by Invenergy and co-developer energyRe, is one of the two New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) selected in its third offshore wind solicitation in January this year.

The wind farm could deliver 2.4 GW of clean, locally sourced energy to New Jersey, enough to power more than one million Garden State homes.

Located over 40 miles (approximately 64 kilometres) off the New Jersey coast, Leading Light Wind is said to be positioned to spur USD 3.7 billion in economic development benefits, create thousands of local union jobs, and empower local communities.

In September, Invenergy requested a delay from NJBPU until late December for its proposed 2.4 GW offshore wind project.

In a July filing with the board, the company cited challenges in finding a wind turbine supplier.
