Synera Renewable Energy Group (SRE Group) has submitted the administrative contract for the 800 MW Formosa 6 offshore wind project to Taiwan’s Energy Administration, Ministry of Economic Affairs.

The submission of the administrative contract, which is said to be on schedule, comes at a critical juncture in addressing the export sector’s demands for renewable power while signaling a “major step forward” in both Taiwan’s energy transition and the broader push for sustainability across the Asia Pacific region, according to SRE.

“We are grateful to the central authorities, local government, and relevant stakeholders for their recognition and support of Formosa 6. Moving forward, our team will adhere to regulatory requirements and work collaboratively with all partners to overcome challenges in our journey toward a sustainable future”, said Lucas Lin, Chairperson of SRE.

The Formosa 6 wind farm will be located off the coast of Xianxi Township, Changhua County, marking SRE’s first venture into central Taiwan.

The site spans approximately 84 square kilometres, with the nearest distance to shore being around 35 kilometres.

The project secured 800 MW development of capacity in the second auction of Phase 3 Zonal Development of offshore wind.

Once operational and connected to the grid, the offshore wind farm is expected to power about 860,000 households.
