ECE Offshore, Jan De Nul to Collaborate on TenneT 2 GW Grid Connection Projects

Business & Finance

The Dutch company, ECE Offshore, has secured a contract with Jan De Nul Group to support cable laying and execution on the TenneT 2 GW grid connection projects.

The scope of ECE Offshore is part of Jan De Nul’s framework agreement with the Dutch-German transmission system operator (TSO) TenneT on the German 2 GW grid connection systems.

The company’s scope of work includes engineering, procurement, and execution of the Waddensea cable installation portion for three projects scheduled from 2026 to 2030.

“We are confident that ECE Offshore’s technical expertise and track record makes them the ideal partner to execute the challenging Waddensea cable installation scope. ECE Offshore’s solution-oriented approach and no-nonsense attitude aligns well with our values, paving the way for true partnership collaboration for the years to come,” said Harold Heeffer, Jan De Nul’s Project Director.

“We look forward to making these projects a success in partnership with both Jan De Nul and TenneT. Our aim is to build a long-term relationship with Jan De Nul that extends beyond the 2 GW grid connection systems, further cementing our presence in the shallow water cable installation market,” added Reinier Nagtegaal, Managing Director of ECE Offshore.

The consortium of Jan De Nul, LS Cable, and Denys will be responsible for the cable connections in Lower Saxony, to BalWin4 and LanWin1, both to be connected in the Unterweser area, and LanWin5 in the Rastede area, Germany, under a contract signed with TenneT in 2023.

In addition, the consortium was awarded the contract for the TenneT part of the onshore 525 kV DC corridor NordOstLink in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, a partner project with 50Hertz.

The production of TenneT’s new cables that can transmit up to 2 GW of offshore wind capacity began at LS Cable in Donghae, South Korea, in May this year.
