TenneT Taps ABL for MWS Services in Germany

The German transmission system operator (TSO) TenneT has selected ABL to provide marine warranty survey (MWS) services for the subsea cable interconnections between two of Germany’s offshore wind farms and the DolWin6 offshore converter station.

The three subsea cables to be installed between the N-3.7 and N-3.8 offshore wind farms and DolWin6 are 40 kilometres long in total, and the installation will comprise the crossing of dozens of other cables along the installation routes.

ABL’s scope of work will include the technical review and approval of all documentation, procedures, and drawings related to the warranted activities, as well as suitability surveys and the necessary dynamic positioning (DP) trials of the proposed fleet for operations.

Additionally, the Hamburg-based company will resource on-site attendance at fabrication and loadout sites and offshore to review and approve transportation and installation operations.

ABL will complete the scope of work, which is planned to be finished in 2026, as part of an ongoing framework agreement with TenneT.

The offshore wind farms in the N-3.7 and N-3.8 zones (called Nordseecluster A) will have a total capacity of 660 MW. They are part of RWE’s Nordseecluster project, which consists of two phases, Nordseecluster A and the 900 MW Nordseecluster B, each comprising two offshore wind farms.

The 900 MW DolWin6 offshore grid connection was commissioned by TenneT in September 2023.

When it comes to other news coming from ABL, the company recently was awarded a contract to provide MWS services to support the offshore construction of Iberdrola’s 315 MW Windanker offshore wind farm in Germany.
