Fred. Olsen Seawind-Hafslund Consortium Abandons Utsira Nord Auction Plans

Business & Finance

A consortium comprising Fred. Olsen Seawind and Hafslund has decided not to participate in the Utsira Nord tender, which is planned to be launched in 2025.

The partners, who did not provide an explanation for their decision, said they will still consider offshore wind on the Norwegian continental shelf with connections to other countries as value-creating and will both collectively and individually monitor further developments.

Fred. Olsen Seawind, Hafslund, and Ørsted formed the Blåvinge consortium in 2021 to take part in offshore wind tenders in Norway. However, the Danish offshore wind developer decided to pull out of the Norwegian partnership two years later.

Utsira Nord zone, which will host Norway’s first commercial floating offshore wind farm, has a total capacity of 1.5 GW.

The tender, which was hit by a series of delays, is planned to be launched next year.

Recently, Statkraft was left solo for Norway’s upcoming floating offshore wind auction after both Ocean Winds and Mainstream Renewable Power decided to pull out of their partnership.
