The last components for Eolink’s 5 MW floating offshore wind turbine have arrived at the Port of Brest in France.
The first components for the floating offshore wind turbine, which will be installed at the French SEM-REV test site off the coast of Le Croisic, arrived at the port in February this year.
The floater, part of the France-Atlantique Project, will measure 52 metres on each side and rise to a towering height of 150 metres.
Once the assembly is finalised, the wind turbine will be towed to the SEM-REV site, where it will be connected to the grid and will supply local and carbon-free electricity to 6,500 people, according to Eolink.
The commissioning of the 5 MW unit is scheduled for Spring 2025.
Last year, France increased its offshore wind capacity goal for 2050 to 45 GW, with a provisional target of 18 GW by 2035.
In November, the Provence Grand Large floating offshore wind project started delivering power to the national electricity grid.
The project is located 17 kilometres off the coast in the Mediterranean Sea and features three Siemens Gamesa 8 MW wind turbines.
