ProCon Joins Smulders on 760 MW Hollandse Kust West VI Offshore Wind Farm

Business & Finance

Belgium’s Smulders has awarded an E&I contract to Denmark’s ProCon for Hollandse Kust West VI, being developed by the Ecowende consortium in the Netherlands.

The company’s scope of work comprises E&I pre-assembly, outfitting, testing, and cold commissioning of the 52 suspended internal platforms (SIPs) and the 52 external platforms for the foundations.

The work will be carried out at Smulders sites in Hoboken and Balen in Belgium and will commence in the first quarter of 2025.

Shell and Eneco secured the development rights for Hollandse Kust West VI in December 2022. Earlier last year, Japan’s Chubu acquired a 30 per cent stake in the project from Eneco.

The offshore wind farm will be built approximately 53 kilometres off the coast of IJmuiden and will be able to produce enough electricity to meet around 3 per cent of the current demand for electricity in the Netherlands.

Van Oord will be responsible for transporting and installing the foundations; designing, procuring, and laying the connecting cables between the wind turbines; and transporting and installing the wind turbines.

The project, which will comprise 54 wind turbines, is scheduled to become operational in 2026.
