Haventus Submits Scoping Report for Scottish Port Extension

Business & Finance

Haventus, the owner of the Ardersier Port in the Moray Firth, Scotland, has submitted a scoping report to the Highland Council for a proposed extension to its port.

Haventus is looking to expand its Ardersier Energy Transition Facility onto nearly 200 acres of land next to the current site.

Subject to gaining the necessary approvals, the additional land would enhance the site’s potential and capability as a location for the manufacturing, assembly, and storage of components for offshore renewables, according to Haventus.

“Expansion of the site would represent a positive step forward in our vision for the development of Ardersier Energy Transition Facility,” said Lewis Gillies, Haventus CEO.

“The scale of offshore wind components means that deployment requires very large areas of land, and the opportunity to add to the site’s acreage greatly enhances the potential for our site and the wider Green Freeport area to further develop a global hub in the Highlands for offshore renewables engineering, manufacturing and assembly, and secure a multi-decade employment opportunity for the region.”

The extension would transform the Ardersier Energy Transition Facility into one of Europe’s largest facilities dedicated to offshore wind, expanding the developable land acreage of the site to approximately 500 acres, said Haventus.

The company took the final investment decision and started construction work on redeveloping the port to serve both fixed-bottom and floating offshore wind projects in May 2024.

The same year, Haventus was granted a GBP 100 million joint credit facility from the Scottish National Investment Bank and UK Infrastructure Bank with a GBP 50 million investment from each.

Recently, Cerulean Winds, a floating wind company with 3 GW under development in the Central North Sea, selected Haventus as its chosen deployment port.

The Cerulean alliance’s first project will be the Aspen development, a 1 GW floating offshore wind farm located in the central North Sea approximately 100 kilometres from shore.
