TGS Secures Offshore Wind Site Characterisation Contract in UK Waters

Business development

Norway-based energy data and intelligence company, TGS, has secured a contract for offshore wind site characterisation on the UK continental shelf for a repeat client.

According to TGS, the project is set to last around 60 days and will begin in the first quarter of 2025.

The Ramform Vanguard will be deployed for the survey, utilising ultra-high-resolution 3D (UHR-3D) streamer technology. This seismic vessel was built in 1999 and is currently sailing under the flag of Norway.

The system captures seismic wavefield data at high spatial and temporal resolution, providing detailed imaging of shallow subsurface targets for wind farm development.

“We are very pleased to secure more offshore wind site characterization contracts, extending our success in this market during 2024,” said Kristian Johansen, CEO of TGS.

“This project further highlights the integral role UHR-3D acquisition has in providing our clients with better seismic data and helping them make data-driven decisions for their wind farm developments.”

In June 2024, following approval from the Norwegian Competition Authority, PGS and TGS received clearance for their merger from the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), which is the final regulatory approval required.

In terms of recent news from TGS, the company launched advanced imaging centers in collaboration with Brazilian state-owned energy giant Petrobras to improve subsurface data interpretation for the Campos and Santos basins offshore Brazil.
