Olympic Orders Construction Vessel Pair at China’s CMHI

Business & Finance

Norway’s Olympic Subsea has signed an agreement to build two offshore construction vessels, which the company claims will be the most energy-efficient in their category worldwide.

The vessels will be built at the China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) shipyard in Shenzhen and are scheduled for delivery in the summer of 2027.

The ships, designed by Kongsberg Maritime, will feature the UT7623 Sustainable Energy Vessel (SEV) design and “exceed the requirements of the Paris Agreement by a significant margin,” according to the company.

“These vessels will set a new standard for energy consumption and leave an extremely low climate footprint,” said Stig Remøy, Olympic’s majority owner.

“The vessels we have now contracted can be used for infrastructure work in both the renewable energy and oil & gas sectors.”

According to Olympic Subsea, the project will generate contracts worth approximately NOK 1 billion for Norwegian businesses, including NOK 700 million for the maritime cluster in Northwestern Norway.

In 2024, Olympic took delivery of two methanol-ready offshore wind construction service operation vessels (CSOVs), Olympic Boreas and Olympic Notos.
