30 MW French Floating Wind Pilot Project Selects O&M Base

Business & Finance

Les Eoliennes Flottantes du Golfe du Lion (EFGL), a consortium comprising Ocean Winds and the Banque des Territoires which is developing the 30 MW floating wind pilot project in the French Mediterranean Sea, has selected Euroports’ Port-La Nouvelle as the site for its operation and maintenance (O&M) base.

Euroports, the operator of a terminal dedicated to marine renewable energy projects in the port of Port-La Nouvelle, and the EFGL consortium signed the contract at the beginning of February in the presence of the Occitanie Region and the town hall of Port-La Nouvelle.

The contract is aimed at providing the maintenance base for the EFGL project and the provision of associated services.

From autumn 2025, the O&M base will accommodate around 15 people during the 20 years of the operation of the EFGL pilot project.

In March 2022, EFGL signed an agreement with Euroports for port services during the construction of the wind farm at the Port-La Nouvelle.

“We are very pleased to continue the collaboration with Euroports initiated in June 2022 with the contract concerning the project logistics at the port of Port-La-Nouvelle. In addition to being the logistics hub for the construction phase of the project, Port-La-Nouvelle will now be the anchor point for all EFGL maintenance teams,” said Jérémy de Barbarin, EFGL project director.

The 30 MW EFGL pilot project involves the construction and operation of three 10 MW Vestas V164-10.0 MW wind turbines supported by Principle Power’s WindFloat semi-submersible floating foundations.

The floating wind farm is planned to be operational in spring 2025.

At the end of last year, the Ocean Winds and Banque des Territoires consortium secured the rights to a site in the “Narbonaise” area, located more than 25 kilometres from the French coast, between Agde (Hérault) and Port-la-Nouvelle (Aude).
