The offshore wind farm, jointly owned by Ørsted and Nuveen Infrastructure, comprises 23 Siemens Gamesa 11 MW wind turbines which, with a rotor diameter of 200 metres, are currently the largest up and running in German waters, according to Ørsted.

For the electricity production at Gode Wind 3, Ørsted will now receive a weighted average price of EUR 81 per MWh, the company said on 6 March.

Offshore construction on Gode Wind 3 started in August 2023 with the installation of the first foundation. By early February 2024, all monopiles were installed and the installation of the Siemens Gamesa 11 MW wind turbines started a couple of months after that. The offshore wind farm delivered first power in May 2024.

Gode Wind 3 will transmit the electricity through its offshore substation and a converter station built by the German transmission system operator (TSO) TenneT, entering the extra-high voltage grid onshore in the German state of Lower Saxony.

Ørsted will continue to manage the offshore wind farm’s operations from its hub at the port of Norden-Norddeich in Lower Saxony.

Gode Wind 3 will be followed by the 913 MW Borkum Riffgrund 3, on which the last wind turbine was installed in early January.

“With the completion of Gode Wind 3, Ørsted now has five operational offshore wind farms in the German part of the North Sea, producing homegrown renewable energy at large scale. We’ll further expand our supply of green power to German households and businesses when our next offshore wind farm, Borkum Riffgrund 3, comes online in 2026”, said Patrick Harnett, Chief Operating Officer at Ørsted.
