Germany-based lightning and surge protection specialist DEHN is launching DEHNsphere, a cloud-based platform that helps wind turbine operators monitor and assess lightning events and use the data to plan inspections and maintenance.
The platform uses data from DEHNdetect, the company's lightning current measurement system developed specifically for wind turbines, which records lightning events directly on the turbine and provides measurement data that can be analysed through DEHNsphere.
The system is DNV-certified and meets the requirements of IEC 61400-24 for lightning monitoring on wind turbines, according to the company.
DEHNsphere collects the recorded events centrally and provides an overview of lightning incidents, including event histories, configurable notifications and cloud-based analysis.
The company said the platform can help operators assess the potential impact of individual strikes, document incidents and make decisions on inspections and condition-based maintenance.
DEHN specialises in engineering services for assessing lightning incidents and determining appropriate follow-up measures, and provides drone-based inspection solutions for wind turbine installations.
