OEG has secured a contract with Ørsted to provide temporary power for the construction of the 2.9 GW Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm in the UK, supporting offshore converter station commissioning and wind turbine installation and commissioning.
For the offshore converter station commissioning works, OEG will supply temporary power onboard a jack-up vessel using five 200 kVA generators and two 300 kVA generators running in synchronisation. The setup will provide up to 1,400 kVA of temporary power.
During turbine installation and commissioning, OEG will provide 150 kVA generators paired with specially designed, mountable 3,000-litre fuel tanks. The compact configuration is said to maximise power output while limiting the equipment footprint on the transition pieces, where space is restricted.
Hornsea 3 is currently under construction in the North Sea, approximately 120 kilometres off the Norfolk coast. The project’s two offshore converter stations were installed by September 2026, while installation of the wind farm’s 197 monopile foundations began earlier this year. The 2.9 GW wind farm is scheduled to be commissioned in 2027.
OEG said the contract builds on its previous work for Ørsted, including support during the construction of Hornsea 1 and Hornsea 2, as well as other projects globally.
