Business & Finance

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has completed a three-week open house tour about the state’s recent awards for 1,696MW of offshore wind.

NYSERDA

NYSERDA presented details on the 816MW Empire Wind project, owned and developed by Equinor, and the 880MW Sunrise Wind, owned and developed by Bay State Wind LLC, a joint venture of Ørsted and Eversource Energy.

The open houses were held in seven New York communities, including Albany, Brookhaven, Long Beach, Southampton, Staten Island, Sunset Park, and The Rockaways.

Equinor, Eversource Energy and Ørsted also took part in the tour, presenting information on project proposals, including local impacts and opportunities.

The selection of the two projects builds upon the target to have 9GW of offshore wind developed in New York by 2035 that was set by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The state recently launched a Request for Qualifications process to upgrade port infrastructure that will be used for the offshore wind sector.
