Under a contract with Cobra Group, the UK-based company was in charge of power system research which included load flow, short circuit, fault ride through, reactive compensation and operation/contingency studies.

“Floating wind is becoming an increasing part of the renewables mix and we are proud to have provided our services and demonstrated our skills and expertise in the field of power systems analysis,” said Luke Bishop, Group Engineering Director at EDS HV.

The Kincardine floating wind farm is a pilot project located 15km off the coast, south of Aberdeen. It began generating renewable power in September last year with the installation of the first turbine.

The project will be completed next year with the installation and commissioning of an additional five MHI Vestas 9.5MW turbines, each installed on a floating substructure.
