E.ON UK will offtake 100% of the project’s electricity from 2022 until 2035, which also includes the Renewable Obligation Certificates (ROCs).

The contract directly follows on from the previous agreement to supply E.ON UK’s customers with electricity from the Humber Gateway which is due to end in 2022.

The two companies signed a PPA at the end of last year for more than 20 offshore and onshore wind farms in the UK.

“We’re fully committed to combating the climate crisis and helping the UK meet its net zero targets,” said Michael Lewis, E.ON UK Chief Executive.

“Part of that is providing our customers with smart, personalised and sustainable solutions and this agreement with RWE secures yet another significant contribution to the 100% renewable electricity we provide to millions of customers around the country as a first step in that journey.“

Located approximately 8 km off the coast of East Yorkshire, the 219 MW Humber Gateway comprises 73 turbines that went into full operation in May 2015.

RWE recently divested a 49% stake in Humber Gateway to Greencoat, and with a 51% share continues to operate the wind farm.
