GE Haliade-X 13 MW Turbine Variant Gets Type Certificate

Technology

GE Renewable Energy has officially received a type certificate from DNV GL for the Haliade-X offshore wind turbine with a 13 MW power output.

The Haliade-X 12 MW prototype, installed in the Port of Rotterdam in 2019, obtained a full type certificate from DNV GL in November 2020.

The prototype has then been optimized to operate at a 13 MW power output.

The uprated turbine set a new world record back in November by producing 312 MWh of electricity in a single 24-hour period.

The Haliade-X 13 MW turbine will make its offshore debut on the world’s largest wind farm – Dogger Bank A and B. A total of 190 of these units will be installed across the first two phases of the 3.6 GW wind farm. Dogger Bank C will feature the same model but with a rated output of 14 MW.

Ørsted has also reserved the option to use the 13 MW variant on the 1.1 GW Ocean Wind project offshore New Jersey, the USA.
