Vattenfall Building Giant Wind Farm Warehouse at Port of Esbjerg

Vattenfall is set to begin the construction of a large warehouse for critical main components and spare parts for its wind farms in Northern Europe at the Port of Esbjerg. 

The work will begin immediately and the construction is expected to be completed around ten months later. 

Once completed and ready for use in 2022, the warehouse – with an indoor area of 2,100 m² and an outdoor area of 8,200 m² – will house components and spare parts for the developer’s wind farms in Northern Europe where Vattenfall operates more than 1,300 offshore and onshore wind turbines.

The purpose of the central warehouse is to store critical main components such as gearboxes, generators, transformers, shafts and blades, as well as array cables and coupling equipment. The inventory will be a supplement to the individual inventories, which are associated with the individual wind farms.  

The facility will be built by the company Thyborøn Invest, which has already been involved with similar constructions in connection with Vattenfall’s Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm in Denmark. Thyborøn Invest will own the building and will then rent it out to Vattenfall.
