Vestas Adds Global Wind Service to Seagreen Team

Vestas has selected Global Wind Service (GWS) to provide wind turbine pre-assembly services for the 114-turbine Seagreen offshore wind farm in Scotland.

Technicians will be based at the Able Seaton Port in the UK and GWS will provide support across all key pre-assembly activities which include tower & nacelle works, rope access painting, warehouse operation, and supervision.

Located 27 kilometres off the coast of Angus, the Seagreen offshore wind farm will become the largest offshore wind farm in Scotland and the world’s deepest fixed-bottom offshore wind farm.

Vestas will supply 114 of their V164-10 MW wind turbines which will supply approximately 1.1 GW of green power annually.

Offshore construction at the site started in October with the installation of the first turbine jacket foundations.

The campaign to fit the turbine parts at the Seagreen wind farm is expected to commence in late 2021 and will run in tandem with the continuing campaign to fit the turbine jacket foundations, Vestas said.

First power is expected in spring 2022 with the 114-turbine wind farm expected to be fully commissioned in 2023.

Seagreen is a GBP 3 billion joint venture between SSE Renewables and TotalEnergies. SSE Renewables is leading the development and construction of the project, supported by TotalEnergies, and will operate Seagreen on completion.
