Singapore’s Mooring Solutions Specialist Takes Steps to Establish Facility in Scotland

Singapore-headquartered Mooreast has signed a collaboration agreement with ETZ to explore establishing a manufacturing facility in Aberdeen, Scotland, for the production of subsea foundations, and the consolidation and assembly of mooring components for the floating offshore wind market.

Signed in Singapore with ETZ Offshore Renewables Director, Andy Rodden and witnessed by Ivan McKee, Scotland’s Minister for Business, Tourism, and Enterprise, the facility is projected to be more than double the floor space and output of Mooreast’s Singapore facility at 51 Shipyard Road.

The manufacturing facility will support Mooreast’s efforts to target an increasing number of offshore wind projects in Europe which include the ScotWind auction, the Celtic Sea Cluster, and the Innovation and Targeted Oil and Gas (INTOG) project, which are expected to deliver over 20 GW, 5 GW and 4.5 GW of floating wind energy, respectively, according to the press release.

As part of its strategy to capture such opportunities, Mooreast incorporated Mooreast UK Co Limited in July 2022.

Based on the agreement, Mooreast and ETZ will work together to develop a preferred site plan to meet the requirements of Mooreast that is compatible with local planning regulations, development, and site limitations.

The companies said they will deliver jobs and skills plan to secure a workforce ready to support the effective operation of a facility whilst creating employment opportunities for local communities aligned with just transition principles, according to the press release.

Mooreast and ETZ also plan to facilitate introductions to key local supply chain companies to support the start-up and future operation of the preferred site.

“As set out in our National Strategy for Economic Transformation and our Inward Investment Plan, it is critically important that we work closely with inward investors by offering our unique ‘Team Scotland’ approach to support their growth and expansion into Scotland, enabling us to deliver inclusive economic prosperity”, said Ivan McKee.

In 2021, Mooreast Asia decided to diversify into the floating wind market and, for this purpose, acquired an upgraded water-front facility in Singapore that doubled its capacity.
