Olympic CSOVs to Feature Vard Electro ICT Solution

Vard Electro has signed a contract with Ulstein Shipyard for the delivery of its SeaQ communication system onboard two construction service operation vessels (CSOVs). The end customer is Olympic Subsea with planned delivery in the first half of 2024.

The SeaQ Communication, a comprehensive ICT system package, will provide the vessels with a robust infrastructure and enhance the crew’s efficiency and safety while at sea, Vard Electro. The set of systems is designed and integrated to meet the demanding conditions of maritime operations and provides crew members with added comfort through infotainment features.

The SeaQ Communication package includes systems for communication, welfare, and security, along with IT racks and integration services.

Ulstein Verft and Olympic cut the first steel for the second CSOV back in January.

The CSOVs are among the first vessels to implement the TWIN X-STERN from Ulstein Design & Solutions, a design where the ship has two sterns and main propeller units in each end which should increase flexibility and operability.

Both vessels are based on the SX222 design and will have a length of 89.6 metres, a beam of 19.2 metres, and will be capable to accommodate 126 people in 91 cabins.

The vessels are powered by diesel-electric propulsion with variable speed in combination with large battery energy storage systems and are prepared for methanol fuel with space available for additional battery capacity for full-electric repowering when the infrastructure for such is available.

Olympic’s CSOVs will feature Ampelmann’s gangways, while the energy storage systems and main switchboards for the vessels will be delivered by Corvus Energy and Acel, respectively.
