Siemens Gamesa Hires Muehlhan for Hollandse Kust Noord Pre-Assembly Work

Contracts & Tenders

Muehlhan Wind Service (MWS) has signed a contract with Siemens Gamesa for pre-assembly work for the Hollandse Kust Noord offshore wind farm, currently being built in the Netherlands by CrossWind, a joint venture of Shell and Eneco.

Under the full-scope pre-assembly contract, MWS will be responsible for mechanical and electrical pre-assembly, crane/lifting operations, and the complete ground transportation of nacelles, blades, and towers at the marshalling harbour at the Buss Terminal in the Port of Eemshaven.

The Hollandse Kust Noord offshore wind farm will comprise 69 SG 11.0-200 DD wind turbines that will make up the project’s total capacity of 759 MW.

This is the second pre-assembly contract the Danish company was awarded by Siemens Gamesa in the Netherlands, following the same work for the Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind farm, built by Vattenfall and also featuring SG 11.0-200 DD wind turbines.

Offshore construction on CrossWind’s Hollandse Kust Noord is well underway, with the final monopile installed at the beginning of February and wind turbine parts arriving in the Dutch port of Eemshaven as of late January.

Van Oord, the company responsible for installing the foundations and the inter-array cables, is also in charge of the transportation and installation of the wind turbines.

Hollandse Kust Noord is being constructed some 18.5 kilometres off the coast of Egmond aan Zee and is scheduled to go into operation later this year.

Besides producing wind turbine-generated electricity for Dutch households, Shell and Eneco will also use the project to implement several innovations.

The solutions include a floating solar park, short-term battery storage, wind turbines that are optimally tuned to the network to minimise the negative ‘wake’-effects that wind turbines have on each other, green hydrogen made by electrolysis as a further storage technique, and the combination of these individual measures to ensure a continuous power supply regardless of the wind situation.
