Windeed, ASCO Forge Floating Wind Ties

Business & Finance

Sweden-based Windeed and ASCO, a provider of logistics and materials management, have signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to strengthen their roles in the floating wind sector by improving logistics and operations for floating offshore wind projects.

The collaboration will focus on creating a logistics plan to facilitate the construction and deployment of 1 GW of floating wind power in a single season using Windeed’s floater technology, the companies said.

Additionally, an advanced operations and maintenance (O&M) services plan will be developed.

According to the companies, a core component of this strategy is the use of Windeed’s in-situ heavy lifting solutions, allowing for significant turbine repairs directly at sea. This capability could minimise downtime and reduce the Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE).

“By aligning with Windeed, ASCO can enhance its capabilities and tap into the vast potential of the floating wind market, which is set to become a key player in the global transition to renewable energy”, said the companies.

In April 2023, Windeed received Approval in Principle (AiP) from Bureau Veritas for its low-weight and low-acceleration floater solution for offshore wind turbines.
