Equinor Awards CTV Contract for US Offshore Wind Farm

Business & Finance

Patriot Offshore Maritime Services, a subsidiary of Liberty Green Logistics based in Lake Success, New York, has been awarded a ten-year crew transfer vessel (CTV) services contract for work on Equinor’s Empire Wind offshore wind farm in the US.

The Jones Act-qualified CTV will be constructed in a US shipyard and is planned to commence operations in 2026.

The vessel will service Equinor’s New York offshore wind farm during the construction and operations and maintenance (O&M) phases of the project.

This marks the second newbuild CTV contract for Patriot Offshore Maritime Services. In 2024, the company took delivery and began operations of its first CTV, Patriot Leader, which will be providing transportation services to several offshore wind farms along the US East Coast over the coming years.

“The investment platform and vessel operation services the Liberty group provides, enable Patriot the ability to construct multiple vessels and provide expanded logistics services to developers, tier 1 installation contractors, and other wind farm suppliers”, said Michael Landry, CEO of Patriot Offshore.

“We are thrilled to support Empire Wind as a local company on this important project and look forward to our long-term contract with Equinor.”

Equinor recently placed an order for 54 Vestas 15 MW wind turbines for its 810 Empire Wind 1 offshore wind project in New York.

Vestas will supply, deliver, and commission the turbines and service them under a five-year agreement, with a long-term service support agreement going into effect after that.

The project is already moving towards the construction phase as Equinor received final approval from the New York State Public Service Commission in May to start building the offshore wind farm.

Once the wind farm reaches financial close, it will move into the construction stage with the first power expected to be produced in 2026.
