RWE Awards Bolt Integrity Services Contract for German Offshore Wind Farms

Supply Chain

EchoBolt has signed a contract with RWE Renewables to provide bolt integrity services for the Amrumbank West and Arkona offshore wind farms in Germany.

The scope of work under the contract will include advanced ultrasonic inspection techniques to assess the integrity of critical bolted connections on the wind turbines.

By enabling an informed, condition-monitoring approach, EchoBolt’s services could help RWE to reduce scheduled maintenance, avoid turbine downtime, and ensure the continued safe and efficient operation of their wind farms in Germany.

This builds on an established relationship between the two companies, with EchoBolt providing multi-year inspection services to RWE at the 630 MW London Array and the 400 MW Rampion offshore wind farms in the UK.

The Amrumbank West offshore wind farm has been in operation since 2015. The 302 MW wind farm is located approximately 37 kilometres west of the North Frisian island of Amrum and comprises 80 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines.

Recently, RWE announced plans to market part of the production capacity from the wind farm in daily auctions for a system-stabilising secondary reserve to keep the grid frequency at 50 Hertz, preventing potential grid failures.

When it comes to Arkona, the project is located 35 kilometres northeast of the island of RĂ¼gen.

The offshore wind farm, which was commissioned in 2019, features 60 Siemens SWT 6.0-154 turbines. Arkona is a joint project between RWE, Equinor, and Energy Infrastructure Partners. RWE operates the offshore wind farm on behalf of the partners.
