Germany and Netherlands Unite Forces for Offshore Wind

Development of the offshore wind industry in North-West Europe was the central topic at the Dutch – German – American Offshore Wind Summit held on 19th of May 2014 in Hamburg.

The Renewable Energy Hamburg Cluster (EEHH) alongside the Dutch network Cleantech Holland, organized the workshop, which was attended by over 100 company representatives from Germany, Netherlands and the USA.

January Rispens, EEHH CEO said: “During the Dutch-German-American Offshore Wind Summit 2014 offshore experts from these countries exchanged views on current developments and their practical experience. Therefore, it is possible to jointly advance the development of the industry on the German – Dutch maritime boundary.”

Rispens added that a new momentum in German offshore wind industry is expected due to introduction of 2020 offshore wind targets of 6,500 megawatts.

The event comes in the wake of a financial closure for a Dutch offshore wind farm on 15th of May, called Gemini.

Rogier Blokdijk , Business Development Manager at Cleantech Holland said: “The wind farm is a  Dutch / German consortium project that demonstrates the close cooperation between the two countries.”

Gemini, with capacity of 600MW, is located 55 kilometers north of the island of Schiermonnikoog in the Dutch North Sea.

After it is completed, it will supply power to 785,000 households.
