Over 80 representatives from the electrical industry have attended an event hosted by Tidal Lagoon Power Limited to hear about the supply chain opportunities with Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon.

Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA) Host Tidal Lagoon Power

Chaired by Andy Basham, National President of the ECA, the event included a presentation on the proposed lagoon along with information on contracting opportunities that will include transformers, switchboards, converters, cables and electrical installation.

Andy Basham says: “The lagoon is a major infrastructure project that will generate significant opportunities for local businesses and contractors. We are working closely with the development team to ensure that we can capitalise on the beginning of a whole new industry here in Wales. The Welsh Economy Research Unit at Cardiff University estimates a minimum 40% of Welsh and 65% UK content. The project will therefore see an investment of over £300m over three years in Wales, catalysing £900m additional output and £173m GVA. This will mean new jobs that place traditional skills alongside cutting-edge design and engineering. It’s a great opportunity for our members to get involved with this exciting new industry.”

Ioan Jenkins, Development Director for Wales, added: “The ECA is the benchmark for best practice in the electrical industry. Their members are committed to innovation and excellence – the gold standard in electrical contracting that we are keen to recognise when awarding work to contractors.”

Founded in 1901, the Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA) is the UK’s leading trade association representing the interests of contractors who design, install, inspect, test and maintain electrical and electronic equipment and services.
