Phil Whitehurst, GMB National Officer for Engineering Construction, said: “This project is a very welcome boost for the Welsh economy. It opens up a way forward to generate green and renewable energy using reliable tidal power.

It is good news for Pembrokeshire and Welsh labour force and for the supply chain. It is also good news for the UK Engineering Construction Industry as a whole.”

DeltaStream tidal energy generator, which will be deployed off the Welsh coast very soon, was unveiled a week ago. The 400kW DeltaStream is to be put to demonstration soon in the Ramsey Sound off St Davids Head, south west Wales. It will stay there for a year, supplying clean power to St Davids homes.

The device has been developed by Tidal Energy Ltd and built and assembled by Mustang Marine.
