The Coastal and Marine Research Centre (CMRC) and the Hydraulics and Maritime Research Centre (HMRC) have amalgamated under the new banner of Beaufort.

The Hydraulics and Maritime Research Centre (HMRC) at University College Cork was established in 1979. It is a centre of excellence within Ireland for Ocean Renewables and Coastal Engineering providing support to the maritime industry as well as fundamental R&D.

The Coastal and Marine Research Centre (CMRC) is a research centre within University College Cork (UCC). It is part of the Environmental Research Institute (ERI) and the Irish Maritime and Energy Resource Cluster (IMERC) and is based in lower Cork Harbour on the Irish National Naval Base, Haulbowline Island. CMRC carries out applied and basic research and also works on commercial contracts with government agencies and industry. Centre staff teach on a number of undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses in UCC and they run tailored short training courses for industry professionals.
