Butendiek OWF Produces First Electricity

The first wind turbines of the Butendiek offshore wind farm in the North Sea started operation, wpd informed today.

All foundations, cables and the substation were installed according to schedule during the last year. Today, the first of the 24 turbines so far installed started production and are feeding-in its first kilowatt hours into the national grid.

Achim Berge Olsen, Managing Director of OWP Butendiek GmbH & Co. KG and wpd offshore GmbH, said: “Now the project is focusing on installing the remaining turbines and completing the residual work.”

The Butendiek offshore wind farm is scheduled to be completed in summer 2015 after approx. 15 months of construction. The wind farm will supply around 370,000 households with renewable energy.
