Kentish Flats Extension Cabling Starts in May

Grid Connection

Kentish Flats Extension export and array cables will commence load out onto two vessels in Nordenham in Germany on 1 May.

The vessels BoDo Installer and Nostag 10 will transport the cables to the Kentish Flats Extension site, where they will begin cable laying work later in May.

Manufacturing of the cables was carried out ahead of schedule.

Two export cables will be installed alongside the existing cables of Kentish Flats Offshore Wind Farm and will come ashore near to Hampton Pier, Herne Bay. The onshore cable route will follow the existing Kentish Flats cable route to the Red House Farm substation on Thornden Wood Road.

The export cable is estimated to be up to 18km and up to 12km of inter-array cables will connect the turbines into strings. The cables will be installed using a water jetting method with a final burial depth in the range of 0.5 to 2m below seabed.
