Leeghwater Offshore Wind Project Cancelled

Business & Finance

Leeghwater, a Dutch pilot project proposing to install fifty to seventy offshore wind turbines off the coast of Zeeland, has been cancelled, Dutch media reports.

The project was abandoned due to high costs and lack of interest among companies, the project initiator TKI Wind op Zee confirmed today.

The construction of the EUR 1 billion project would have begun this year. It would have started off as a smaller test project featuring only two wind turbines, which would have eventually expanded to its full capacity.

TKI now hopes it will be able to open several testing facilities, which would be accessible for newcomers to the market.
