Umoe Mandal Buys DuroWipers’ Equipment

Vessels

Norwegian vessel operator Umoe Mandal has purchased six External Panorama Pantograph heavy duty windscreen wipers from UK based DuroWipers to equip a newbuild Surface Effect Ship (SES).

Recently, Statkraft signed an initial six-month charter agreement for the new WaveCraft vessel, the Umoe Firmus, to transport its O&M turbine technicians to and from the Sheringham Shoal offshore wind farm off the coast of Norfolk.

Noel Gould of DuroWipers pointed out that DuroWipers are maintenance free, thus the operator can expect greater cost savings over the vessels’ lifetime.

Ole Guttorm Ihme, contract manager, Umoe Mandal, said: “DuroWipers were selected based on their weight, price and quality. Light weight equipment is immensely important for an SES in order to achieve greater comfort at speeds of 40 knots, which the vessels are known for.”

The initial meeting took place at the company’s stand at Seawork 2015, where its eleven external wiper systems supplied to London Port Authority’s London Titan vessel were exhibited as the vessel was located on the pontoons.

The company designs, develops and manufactures all of its wipers at its factory in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire, UK.
