The Wikinger wind farm is currently in the testing phase, following the recent installation of the 70th and final Adwen 5MW turbine at the site located approximately 75km from the German mainland and close to the island of Rügen.

Adwen has appointed RTS Wind to document and monitor the quality of the construction in all phases and support the realisation of the offshore wind project, from transport to the construction of the wind turbines and the final handover of the completed wind farm.

24 inspectors, five documentation managers and two project coordinators have been in charge of the quality assurance of the pre-construction of the towers and rotors by working on the project from Sassnitz.

At sea, the inspectors are ensuring the quality of the construction, cabling and commissioning, while some climbers are also used for the project, RTS Wind said.

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s jack-up Brave Tern installed the first wind turbine at the site at the end of January 2017.

The EUR 1.4 billion wind farm will be operated from the O&M base in Mukran for at least 25 years.

The Wikinger offshore wind farm is developed by Spanish energy company Iberdrola, which recently said that it is actively preparing to participate in the next round of offshore wind auctions in Germany scheduled for April 2018.
