CIP Joins Australian 2GW Offshore Wind Project

Australia’s Offshore Energy and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), on behalf of the fund Copenhagen Infrastructure III K/S (CI III), have entered into a partnership regarding the continued development of Australia’s first offshore wind farm, the Star of the South.

The project has so far been developed solely by Offshore Energy. Further development of the site will be undertaken jointly by the partnership.

The Star of the South is located off the south coast of Gippsland, Victoria. The site is situated 10-25km off the coast in the Bass Strait and has a total expected capacity of up to 2,000MW.

The partnership brings together local knowledge and proven international experience that we believe will deliver many benefits for Australia, Victoria and local communities,” said Andy Evans, Managing Director of Offshore Energy.

The project includes up to 250 wind turbines within a 574-square kilometre area, which would deliver around 8,000GWh of electricity per year. This is approximately 18% of Victoria’s power usage or enough to power 1.2 million homes.
