Fugro Secures More Triton Knoll Work

Fugro is carrying out further offshore and coastal site investigation works on innogy’s 860MW Triton Knoll offshore wind farm in the UK to help finalize the construction and installation plans.

The four-month seabed and ground condition tests include investigations around the location of the joint bay, where the offshore export cable will connect to the wind farm’s electrical system onshore.

The majority of the work is being conducted out at sea, with surveys taking place near the shoreline and beach over the course of about ten days, Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm Ltd said, adding that an investigation will also be carried out on the beach near Anderby for a day or two between 18 and 27 June.

According to the developer, an Ecological Management Plan (EMP) covering construction work has been submitted for approval to East Lindsey District Council and Boston Borough Council, in consultation with Natural England, which sets out mitigation required to protect ecology before, during and after construction.

A Project Sequencing Plan (PSP), detailing the indicative sequencing of the onshore cable works including landfall activities, was also submitted to the relevant planning authorities.

In April, Fugro completed a three-week program of test drilling at the locations of the turbine foundations and two offshore substations on the project some 32km off the Lincolnshire coast.

The Triton Knoll offshore wind farm will comprise 90 MHI Vestas V164-9.5MW turbines expected to produce first energy as early as 2021, with commissioning scheduled for the same year.
