Seagreen said that its team is working to develop a competitive bid for the auction and is considering supply chain partnerships across all elements aiming to deliver the two 525MW projects in the early to mid-2020s.

According to the company, since 2014 when the consents for the wind farms were granted, offshore wind technology has advanced significantly with larger and more efficient turbines able to generate additional power.

On that account, Seagreen recently issued an application to Marine Scotland to remove the capacity limit on the Section 36 consents and Marine Licences for the two offshore wind farms, claiming that the removal of the limit would allow installation of higher capacity turbines under the existing consent parameters.

The variation of the existing consents would see the increase of the combined maximum capacity of the projects from 1,050MW to 1,500MW, with the wind farms still comprising up to 75 turbines.

Seagreen, a 50/50 joint venture partnership between SSE and Fluor Limited, is developing the two offshore wind farms in the Firth of Forth Zone some 25km from the Angus coastline in Scotland.
