Denmark and Taiwan Join Forces for Offshore Wind Education

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), National Taiwan University (NTU) and DTU Wind Energy have partnered up to work on local offshore wind education in Taiwan.

The three parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) earlier this year committing to develop offshore wind courses in Taiwan, as well as an online course serving the continued education needs.

The partners recently met at DTU Risø Campus in Roskilde, Denmark, in order to get the project going. As the next step, the focus will be on developing new wind energy-related courses to be offered at NTU from February 2019 which will be part of a new master’s program in offshore wind energy.

”We have been in contact with NTU and CIP for about 6 months, and now we are ready to continue on in creating the demanded courses. We are, of course, very proud, that NTU and CIP asked us to help them,” said Niels-Erik Clausen, Associate Professor at DTU Wind Energy.

According to NTU Professor Mao-Hsiung Chiang, more people need to be educated in Taiwan in order to reach the 2025 goal of producing 5.5GW of offshore wind since there will be about 20.000 jobs in the sector by then.

To remind, CIP established an office in Taiwan in October last year in order to get more focus on the local offshore wind industry.

“We have established CIP in Taiwan in 2017 and see a great potential here. In order to fulfill our ambitious plans we will need top-qualified staff. It was therefore natural for us to turn to the two elite universities NTU and DTU for help,” said CEO for CIP’s Taiwan Project, Jesper Krarup Holst.
