The vessel is currently under construction at a COSCO shipyard in China. The keel laying ceremony was held in March.

The Orion will come equipped with a 5,000 tonne Liebherr HLC 295000 crane with a lifting height of up to 180 metres and an outreach of 30 metres.

DEME’s subsidiary GeoSea will use the 216.5-metre vessel to handle the heaviest monopiles, jackets, wind turbine components and structures in a single shipment, and install the next generation of giant multi-megawatt wind turbines.

The Orion will be able to accommodate a crew of up to 131 people and will be powered by a dual-fuel engine capable of burning liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The delivery is expected in 2019.
